Love Outdoor Learning was founded by Carol Murdoch and supported by a team of staff.  We provide sessions for children and training for staff in a range of settings throughout the UK and beyond.

Carol is teacher with over 10 years experience who understands the Curriculum for Excellence and demands schools are under to create affordable yet stimulating experiences for both children and staff.  She will work with your school to tailor make your experience days and training sessions meet your specific requirements.

For Children

Love Outdoor Learning is a unique opportunity for children to learn about their environment as well as their thoughts, feelings and relationships.  Time outside, in a safe and structured environment can aid children in developing their understanding of the world, the environment and themselves, using their emotions, imagination and senses.  We offer affordable experience days which are designed for single classes and also those for the whole school.  Contact us now to help us create an experience day for you which is as unique as your school.

Information on our whole school experience days is here.

Some of our more poplar experience days for individual classes include:

Milestone Marking – There are many significant events within the school year, from the start of the year where children begin to bond to the end where they mark their accomplishments.  Our Milestone Days help children record and remember these days.
Literacy Days – We encourage children to work collaboratively and independently in a range of activities to develop their literacy skills.  This can include writing poems and stories but also using drama to develop stories or creating art in the natural environment as a response to stories listened to.  These days can be linked to specific authors or class novels.
Woodland Days – Whether you want to learn about ecosystems, understand how the landscape evolves or try out the skills our ancestors would have had to have, local woodlands are perfect to launch, complement or culminate classroom projects.
STEM Days – These days are filled with fun and excitement where children are set a range of STEM challenges to complete.
History Days – What better way to explore a historical project than getting outside and living some of the experiences.  We aim to bring history to live and explore a range of skills which will engage and motivate your learners.
Living Things Days This day allows your children to explore what lives in your local woodland.  From scavenger hunts to bug collecting and tree identification.  We offer a wide range of activities to help children explore their natural habitat.

For Staff

Learning outdoors is an expectation both within the Curriculum for Excellence and the GTCS standards.  However, many teachers can feel deskilled in this new environment, unsure how to approach the learning.  Here at Love Outdoor Learning we can provide training for your staff, either on site or at a nearby wood.  This helps staff increase confidence when outside.  We help your staff develop strategies and give practical ideas to facilitate and manage learning, across all areas of the curriculum.  Our aim is to turn outdoor learning into just another tool for a teacher to use, suitable for any stage and curricular area.

Our current themed staff training sessions are

The Great Outdoors – This is for staff new to taking learning outside
Literacy – This explores how we can use the outdoors to teach reading, writing, talking and listening.
Mathematics and Numeracy – the outdoors can help children deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts
Expressive Arts – many artists find inspiration in the outdoors, why don’t we use this with our children?
STEM – STEM in the outdoors can be very motivational for children and presents its own set of challenges
Get out the Playground – we explore how the local community can also be a place of learning
