Rooted in Practice: Outdoor Learning Coaching & Training

Rooted in Practice is a hands-on coaching and training programme designed to help teachers grow in confidence and capability when delivering outdoor learning. By blending live outdoor teaching, observation, and personalised support, we equip your staff with the tools, knowledge, and mindset to teach the curriculum outdoors – meaningfully and consistently.

What’s Included

Three Powerful Sessions
Delivered across the academic year, each session builds on the last — moving from demonstration to team teaching, and finally to supported independence. This real-time development means growth is visible, confidence increases, and learning sticks.

Live Coaching in Context
Each 45-minute session is followed by a 15-minute one-to-one reflection with our trainer and the participating teacher, ensuring individualised support and space to ask questions, process ideas, and plan forward, this is further supported through emails.

Outdoor, Curriculum-Linked Focus
Sessions take place in your school grounds, helping your staff make the most of what they already have. Our approach covers all curricular areas, links directly to outcomes, and builds in risk assessment, behaviour management, and planning tools.

Membership Access for Ongoing Learning
The school gain 12 months of access to our online membership site, packed with lessons, plans, progression pathways, and resources to make high-quality outdoor learning easy to plan and deliver.

Ongoing Support All Year
Our support doesn’t end with the final session. We’re just an email away for a full 12 months, here to answer questions, offer advice, and celebrate successes.

Programme Structure

Session 1 – Demonstration & Observation

Carol leads the session with support from your teacher. Together, they evaluate and plan for session two..

Session 2 – Team Teaching

Carol and your teacher co-deliver the session, helping the teacher take more responsibility in a supported way. Planning and feedback follow.

Session 3 – Teacher-Led with Coaching Support

Your teacher leads, with Carol observing and offering feedback. This final step builds confidence and consolidates their ability to teach outdoors independently.
