It’s a good time to introduce outdoor STEM activities that explore the science behind flight and its environmental consequences.
21st December: Robin Day
Robin Day is the perfect time to get outdoors and spot one of the UK’s most beloved winter birds. With their bright red breasts, robins are a cheerful sight in winter. Use our Fat Balls lesson to help students create bird feeders, providing much-needed food for robins and other birds during the colder months.
21st December: Winter Solstice
The Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year, is a celebration of light returning and marks the changing seasons. Use this day to teach lessons such as the Winter Solstice Story and Activities, or engage in nature with a Winter Scavenger Hunt. Also, don’t forget to check out our blog on The Magic of Snowdrops for inspiration.

Christmas is not just about festive celebrations but also a wonderful time to focus on creativity and giving. Our Christmas Cards lesson can help us connect with the season and enjoy outdoor activities even during the festive period.
25th – 2nd January: Hanukkah
Hanukkah, the Festival of Lights, is a time for celebrating perseverance and cultural heritage. During this eight-day celebration, why not explore the holiday by creating a Hanukkah Star of David? It’s a great way to combine cultural studies with hands-on creativity, helping students learn about different traditions.
26th December: The Festival of Winter Walks

31st December: Hogmanay
Hogmanay, Scotland’s celebration of the New Year, is steeped in tradition. As the year draws to a close, we can reflect on the past year and set intentions for the year ahead. Get creative with nature-inspired activities like making Memory Sticks, a beautiful way for students to capture their memories and a thoughtful and creative way to say farewell to the old year and welcome in the new one.
