Get Outdoors November

What is Outdoor Learning?

Is it the daily mile?  Building dens? Toasting marshmallows over fires?
Or is it taking your jotters outside on a sunny day?
What about sensory or veggie gardens?
Or is it something more?

To me, it is something that can (and should) support all curricular areas.  It is a tool for teachers.  It is not about large pieces of equipment, you can read about our thoughts here on that.  But is instead a simple approach that can be used with all ages and stages.

But, to a lot of teachers, it is new and can feel like an(other) add on – it did to me many years ago when I started.

But more than that, it can reduce workload (yes really!), it can support mental health and wellbeing for kids and teachers (it did for me) and it can re-engage learners in new and exciting ways.

How can you start? How can you make it easy to introduce?  Where do you begin with outdoor learning without it being a lot of work?

Well, a good teacher knows they do not need to reinvent the wheel.  They can use the learning and experiences of colleagues and that is just where we come in.

Get Outdoors The November Course
To celebrate Outdoor Classroom Day in November we will be running a course during that week.  Join us from 1st November while we support you in getting outdoors.  The course will give you the tools, ideas and resources to make outdoor learning simple.  We will be jumping on live Q+A sessions every night to support you and celebrate your wins.  And we will even be handing out prizes to the schools and teachers who impress, inspire and engage us.

How It Will Work
Every day we will email you training, resources and lessons ideas.  We will encourage you to get outdoors and will love to hear what you get up to, but we do not expect you to be outdoors every day, though it would be amazing if you did.  It is free, but we do need you to get involved.  And it is open to educators from all over the world, not just those in Scotland!

Who Is Delivering the Course
The course has been written and created by our director Carol.  She has worked in education for much of the last 20 years as a teacher in mainstream schools but also in severe and complex schools and even ASD bases.  She brings a wealth of experience to the course and an understanding of the complexities you face today.

What’s The Costs?
We are offering this to educators for free!  We know the last two academic years have been tough, we know there is an increased focus on outdoor learning and we know, and want, to help you

So, what are you waiting for?  Fill in the form below and join us in November to Get Outdoors!
